Driehaus community design excellence winners announced

I've always been a fan of the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Award for Architectural Excellence in Community Design.

Chicago's architectural treasures aren't just in the Loop and on the lakefront. Many can be found in the city's neighborhoods, where the downtown-centric media rarely bothers to tread.

This year's winners were announced today as part of the 18th annual Chicago Neighborhood Development Awards at the Chicago Hilton & Towers. They are:

• First place, Roseland Senior Campus, 104th St. and Michigan Ave., Landon Bone Baker Architects (above)

• Second place, Inspiration Kitchens-Garfield Park, 3504 W. Lake St., Wheeler Kearns Architects

• Third place, Gary Comer College Prep, 7131 S. Chicago Ave., John Ronan Architects

Congratulations to the winners and to the patron, Richard Driehaus, on the 15th anniversary of this worthy program.
