Rail Cars to Lettuce: Second big greenhouse coming to Pullman

The New York company that opened the world's biggest rooftop farm in Pullman three years ago is poised to launch an even larger greenhouse nearby.
Gotham Greens has agreed to open a 105,000-square-foot greenhouse that will grow lettuce and other greens along the Bishop Ford Freeway in the South Side neighborhood. The building would be the newest addition to Pullman Park, a real estate development that includes a Method soap factory and new Whole Foods Market distribution center.
Gotham Greens, which supplies lettuce and other produce to Whole Foods and other grocery chains, already runs a 75,000-square-foot greenhouse that opened atop the Method plant in 2015. But that farm quickly hit capacity, and the firm has been scouting Chicago for a second site.
